Fall 2010 WORKSHOPS
Once Upon a Stage 2
Grades: Pre-K-3
Instructor: Julie Faust
4 sessions, 2 hours each 4:30 - 6:30
An adventure in movement and fun as we act out our favorite fairytales. Make new
friends and play with old friends. Explore some of our favorite bedtime stories, and
make them come alive for the stage.

Acting Out!
Grades 4-8
Instructor: Kerry Cahill
4 sessions, 90 minutes 12:15 – 1:45
An acting class for kids of all experience levels. Utilizing improvisation, theater games, and scene study, students will explore the world of acting. In this class, kids will learn to work together as an ensemble, build tools as an actor, and gain a new sense of self-confidence ... and it's tons of fun in the process!

If You Got It Bring It: Universes Theater Asthetic
Adults & Teens
Instructor: Gamal Abdel Chasten
4 sessions 2 hours each 6:30 – 8:00
This workshop is for artist working at all levels; beginners to professionals. Using
the Universes esthetic, participants will focus on collaborating with other artist.
You will be challenged to leave your comfort zone and try things you never thought
were capable of. Through incorporating music, movement, the word, and drama
participants will work in small groups (Ensembles), to create dynamic vignettes.

Acting The Fool: Creating Characters Through Movement
Grades: Adults & Teens
Instructor: Chris Kaminstein
4 sessions: 2 hours each 6:45 – 8:45
This class will encourage a physical approach to acting through imagination,
discipline, and inspired foolishness. Using a variety of exercises and
techniques, actors will learn how to expand the range and possibility of
movement within their own bodies in order to create unique and fascinating
characters onstage. The class will especially focus on waking up the
imagination in order to create a strong performance presence. Techniques
are a good source of training for actors at any level. Students may invite
family and friends to attend an open workshop during the final class.

From The Poem to the Proscenium
Grades: Adults & Teens –
Instructor – Gamal Abdel Chasten
4 sessions: 2 hours each 6:30 – 8:30
This workshop will be geared toward Poets, Storytellers and Musician's who are
looking to segue into Theater. In this workshop, thought and consideration will
be made to character development, the art of storytelling, and presentation. The
goal is to give the new or established artist some tools to assist them in making the
transition into theater.

Improvisation From The Ground Up
Adults & Teens
Instructor: Jennifer Schemke
4 sessions: 10AM-12PM
This workshop is designed to take the "anxiety" out of improv and get students
feeling free to wing it!! Whether you're a daredevil with nerves of steel, or an
introvert who shudders at the thought of performing without a script, this course
will teach you the tricks and rules of improv that will have you enjoying the free-
fall in no time. Improv is the art of communicating under pressure, and what you
learn in this four week course can be incredibly useful in other areas of your life –
on stage and off. Come and amaze yourself!

Intermediate Improv " From The Ground Up: EVEN HIGHER"
Adults & Teens
Instructor: Jennifer Schemke
4 sessions: 1:00PM-3PM
This class is designed to build on the basics learned in "IMPROV FROM
THE GROUND UP". Students will continue to practice the art of working
spontaneously, without a script, building confidence in their instincts. The
class will begin to emphasize scene-work, as well as explore more fun and
hilarious improv games and exercises. If you've done improvisation before,
but it's been awhile, or are a brave soul wishing to continue the adventure
you began in the first session, this class is for you!! (Pre-Requisite for
enrollment: participation in "Improv from the Ground Up" or approval after
consult with instructor.)
