Spring 2010 WORKSHOPS

ALL SPRING WORKSHOPS will take place in Southern Rep Studio and ALL SPRING PERFORMANCES will take place in Southern Rep Theatre. Click here for directions.

COMEDY CREATIONS
For Kids in Grades 4-7
Instructor: Jennifer Pagan
(7 sessions, 1 ½ hours each)

Inspired by theatre games and improv, students will create their very own new play! In this course, young actors will learn games from the famed Second City improv troupes of Chicago and L.A. and use them to create the characters that will come to life as the new play is invented. Students will incorporate costumes, props, and scenery to develop their performance. The course will culminate in a showcase of improv games and the premiere of the original play created by the students. 

DATES: Mondays, April 12 – May 24, 2010

CUTTIN’ LOOSE WITH MOTHER GOOSE
For Kids in Grades Pre-K – 3
Instructor: Julie Faust
(8 sessions, 1 ½ hours each)

There was an old lady who lived in a shoe, she had so many children she knew exactly what to do! She gave them each costumes, some props, and playmates and let them explore their creative traits! This course will use classic Mother Goose rhymes as text for a playful performance that family and friends will be invited to attend at the close of the workshop.

WRITING & PERFORMING YOUR OWN WORK
For Adults & Teens
Instructor: Joanna Russo
(8 sessions, 2 hours each)

This workshop is about unleashing your creativity! Both first-time theater makers and veterans are welcome to attend. This course is designed to offer you the structure, feedback and assistance you need to explore your ideas at your own pace. We will support and inspire each other as we undertake our own personal journeys through writing and performance. Utilizing a variety of exercises, improvisations and assignments, we will learn to communicate our ideas on stage with clarity and purpose. Class members will share a solo piece in a closing performance for invited guests.

SCENE STUDY
For Adults & Teens
Instructor: Joanna Russo
(8 sessions, 2 hours each)

This class combines on-your-feet scene work from contemporary plays with exercises that encourage imagination, spontaneity and physical exuberance! Informed by the techniques of Stella Adler, David Mamet and Michael Chekhov, this class will provide a solid framework for approaching a scene and developing a character. We will free our bodies and voices to interact fully within the world of the play. The workshop is for everyone from first-time actors to experienced performers. The course will culminate in a presentation of our scene work for family and friends.
