THE SUNKEN LIVING ROOM

A Co-World Premiere
by David Caudle
Directed by Ryan Rilette
January 17 - February 11, 2007
When Hurricane Katrina cancelled our plans to premiere this great new play last season, we took it on the road and co-produced it with New Theatre in Coral Gables, FL. It was a huge hit, and we're proud to bring it back home to you. Set in the late '70s, this "unsettling, funny, poignant play" (Miami Herald) that was named Best Drama by the Miami Sun Post focuses on an eventful night in the life of 16-year-old Wade. Bookish and innocent, Wade is left alone to care for his brother's sexually precocious girlfriend, who has just returned home with a big secret and is now trying to seduce him. But when his brother returns with a bag of cocaine, things really heat up. By the end of the night, the whole family is changed forever.
"[An] unsettling, funny, poignant play...full of humor, compassion, keen observation and period-perfect language."
- Miami Herald
Miami Sun Post names The Sunken Living Room Best Drama!
"When the stormy drama with a stormy history finally opened in April, audiences were treated to a gem...With seamless direction by Southern Rep's Ryan Rilette, a magnificent cast and an appropriately garish set by Jesse Dreikosen reflecting the decor of the Me Decade, The Sunken Living Room marked a theatrical high point of the last season and tagged Caudle as a playwright to watch." - Miami Sun Post
