THE Clean House

by Sarah Ruhl
Directed by Aimée Hayes
February 20-March 16, 2008
Our houses, like our relationships, are never as clean as we want them to be. Sometimes, you need to just embrace the dirt and let a good joke clean your insides out.
Lane just wants her house cleaned, but her Brazilian maid Mathilde would rather write jokes. When Lane’s neatnik sister Virginia starts cleaning the house on the sly all seems resolved. Then Lane’s husband leaves her…for an older woman. Wildly theatrical and intensely poetic, THE CLEAN HOUSE is a magical play about fighting the dirt in your life, finding your true love at any age, and the quest for the perfect joke.

“This comedy is romantic, deeply so, but in the more arcane sense of the word: visionary, tinged with fantasy, extravagant in feeling, maybe a little nuts.” – The New York Times
